Cedar Hill Prep School Mardi Gras Celebration

The first American Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday, took place on March 3, 1699, when French explorers Pierre Le Moyne d’Iberville and Sieur de Bienville landed near present-day New Orleans, Louisiana. … Ten years later, the first recorded New Orleans Mardi Gras parade took place, a tradition that continues to this day. On February 25th, 2020 Cedar Hill Prep School celebrated Mardi Gras that was organized by Grade 8 French Class. Students honored the celebrations by wearing Mardi Gras colors which are purple, green and gold, and they stand  for justice, faith and power. The celebration began with 8th graders parade , followed by a presentation and video about the history of Mardi Gras. All students enjoyed a trivia game about the presentation that was led by the French class students.

Cedar Hill Prep School Mardi Gras Celebration

Art class collaborated with French this month to create masks for the Mardi Gras Celebration. These masks use mixed media materials and color symbolism to represent the students’ alter ego.
