A New Summer Camp Option In Somerset, New Jersey

A lot of summer “camps” today are run out of multi-use buildings, some with only small grassy areas behind them, so they must rely on off-site field trips to fill up the day.

However, if you want to give your child the traditional camp experience with all modern amenities, there is a new option in Somerset on our beautiful 27-acre property — Cedar Brook  Day Camp!

If you went to summer camp in the Northeast when you were a kid, chances are you were outdoors most of the day while at camp. And outdoors didn’t just mean outside — it meant going through the woods, walking along streams, and canoeing in a lake on many acres of beautiful property.

Camp The Way It Used To Be

Summer break is such an important time for kids to learn and grow in ways they can’t in school. Since children today are in front of screens on a consistent basis, they need to take advantage of being outside during the great weather New Jersey summers offer.

Top Private Elementary School Near Somerset NJCedar Brook Day Camp brings the traditional camp experience into the 21st century. On the 27-acre campgrounds, there is a lot of wooded nature to explore, and you’ll also find the following:

  • Pool
  • Splashpark
  • Baseball field
  • Basketball court
  • Rope course
  • Archery range
  • Tennis courts

The camp also has multiple modern indoor buildings which offer a gymnasium, game rooms, cooking rooms, music rooms, and much more.

Camp Activities

“I’m bored” is not a phrase we ever expect to hear at our camp. In fact, with so many activities (40+) to choose from, we expect our campers to experience a wide range of activities, including ones that they have never done before. A typical camp day will have between 4-6 activities, with most being about 45 minutes long. With our Freedom of Choice program, campers can select their favorite activities while still getting a healthy variety.

What is camp without having color wars and Camper vs. Counselor? We will also have new favorites like Camper Idol and Campers Got Talent. Here is a short list of traditional activities:

  • Swimming (instructional swim included)
  • Archery
  • Team Sports (baseball, soccer, field hockey, etc.)
  • Rock Climbing
  • Tennis
  • Row Boating
  • Fishing
  • Woodwork
  • Painting
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Plus so much more!

While we do focus on being outdoors and exploring nature, we also have great indoor activities to choose from. Parents can choose to have their child use one period to work on a summer project. Also, we offer several academic and/or enrichment programs such as:

  • Robotics
  • Claymation
  • Chip Design
  • Digital Media

About Our Director

The camp director is Joshua G. Smith, whose experience with and passion for summer camp is hard to match. Being a former camper himself, some of his best childhood memories and friends were from camp. He also credits camp for many of his vital social and life skills. Joshua’s excitement for summer camp inspired him to take the next step, so he started working at camps when he was 14, and he hasn’t looked back since.

After starting off as a counselor, he became a program director at age 20, and worked at overnight camps during his college years. For the past 25+ years, Joshua has successfully run multiple camps, including those for Rutgers University.
